Counter sales

Counter sales are the tickets people buy face to face, which in most community venues is still a sizeable share of the room.

Counter sales are sales made in person rather than online: at a desk in the venue, over a shop counter, in a club canteen, or at the entrance on the night. They are the same places, sold by a different route, and the only thing that must never differ is the count they come out of.

Why in-person selling has not gone away

Part of every audience will not buy online, and telling them to is telling them not to come. The village shop that keeps a few tickets by the till reaches people no link ever will, and for many local events that route still outsells the website.

There is also the group who decide on the day. If you refuse to sell tickets on the door, you are turning away the people who looked at the weather at six o'clock and thought they might go out after all.

The problem with a second list

The moment counter sales are recorded somewhere else, you have two versions of how full the room is, and you will not find out which is right until the hall is uncomfortable. Overselling by twenty is a conversation nobody wants to have at the door.

Cash makes it worse. A tally on paper is fine until the person keeping it is called away, and the note that says twelve becomes an argument between two people who both remember it differently.

Counter sales in Passavo

A sale made at the desk for a time slot reduces what is available online in the same instant, so the two routes share one figure. A ticket sold in person prints or is sent by email, and it is scanned at the entrance like any other.

Whoever sells is recorded, and cash and card are separated, so the treasurer can see where the money came from rather than just how much arrived. Selling rights can be given without giving access to anything else.

Common questions

Can a shop or a bar sell for us?

Yes. Give the person a login with selling rights only. They sell with the same products and time slots, and you see what they took without needing to visit them.

What about tickets we already printed on paper?

You can ring those sales up on the till afterwards as cash, so they appear in the same overview and the same cash journal as the rest of the evening.
