The admission ticket

An admission ticket is proof that one person may enter one event at one time, which is exactly as much as it needs to prove.

An admission ticket is a document giving one named or unnamed holder the right to enter a particular event or venue. It sets out what was bought, for when, and at which rate. An entry ticket differs from a reservation in that the payment has already been made and the place is no longer provisional.

What should be printed on it

Four things earn their place: what the event is, when the doors open, what rate was paid, and the code. The rate matters because it is what the person on the gate has to read at a glance in poor light with a queue behind them.

A concession ticket is the usual example. If a reduced rate requires proof of age or of student status, that has to be visible on the ticket itself, or nobody will ask for the proof and the reduced rate quietly becomes the standard rate.

Where organisers get caught out

Wording creates expectations you then have to honour. A ticket that says the hall opens at seven will bring people at seven, whatever the poster said. It is worth reading the ticket text once as though you had never heard of the event.

The second trap is what the ticket does not say. Nothing about accessible seating, nothing about whether the bar takes cards, nothing about where to park. Those questions arrive by email in the last two days instead, one message at a time.

Admission tickets with Passavo

You set out the rates yourself, whether that is a full price, a reduced rate or a family rate, and each one prints its own name on the ticket. The gate therefore sees the rate rather than only the amount paid.

The date, the venue and its address travel with the ticket into the visitor's inbox, so your practical details arrive with it. What is sold at each rate is counted separately, which is what makes a reduced rate worth offering at all.

Common questions

Can we put a name on each ticket?

Yes. You can ask for the attendee name during checkout and print it on the ticket, which is common for dinners with a seating plan and for anything with a resale problem.

Can a reduced rate be sold at the desk only?

Yes. Each ticket type has its own prices per channel, so a rate can be offered online, at the desk or both, at whatever price you set for each.
