The e-ticket
An e-ticket is a ticket that exists as data rather than as card, sent by email and shown on a phone at the entrance.
An e-ticket is a digital ticket delivered by email or saved to a phone, carrying a code that the entrance can check. The code, not the layout, is what makes it valid. The same ticket can be printed at home without becoming a second ticket, because only the code is ever checked.
What makes a digital ticket valid
Every e-ticket carries a unique code. At the entrance that code is looked up, and the answer is either that this is a place nobody has used yet or that it has already been through. Everything else printed on the ticket is there for the human being holding it.
That is also why a photograph of a friend's ticket does not create a second place. It creates a second copy of one place, and the first person through takes it. A paperless ticket is not harder to copy than a paper one; it is simply much easier to catch.
Where it causes friction
The email is the weak link. It lands in a spam folder, or in the inbox of the one person in the group who booked and then went on holiday. Any e-ticket that cannot be found again on request will be argued about at the door on the night.
The second problem is the screen itself. A cracked phone at minimum brightness in bright sun is genuinely hard to scan, and a queue forms behind it. Allowing a printout is not old-fashioned; it is the fastest fix available to a volunteer on the gate.
The e-ticket with Passavo
Tickets go out by email straight after payment, as a digital ticket that can be shown on a screen or printed at home. The same ticket can be sent again to the buyer at any moment, which settles most door disputes in under a minute.
Each ticket carries its own code, and a code that has already been through the entrance is refused the second time. Buyers who prefer to keep the ticket in their phone can save it to a wallet instead of hunting for the email.

Common questions
What if a guest cannot find the email?
You look them up by name in today's list in the scanning app and let them in from there, or you send the tickets again from the admin. Neither needs the guest to find anything.
Can one email hold several tickets?
Yes. An order for a family arrives as one message with a separate code for each person, so the group can split up and still get in individually.
