Payment methods

Payment methods are regional habits more than technical choices, and offering the wrong set quietly loses you the sales you never hear about.

Payment methods are the ways a buyer can pay: debit and credit cards, national bank schemes, and mobile options. Europe is not one market here. Belgium reaches for Bancontact, the Netherlands for iDEAL, and most other countries for a card, which means the right set depends on who is buying.

Local habits decide conversion

People finish a purchase with the method they use every week. A Belgian visitor who does not see Bancontact at checkout does not shrug and reach for a credit card; a noticeable share of them close the page instead.

The same applies in reverse. Offering a long list of methods nobody local uses adds clutter to the page and a decision the buyer did not want to make, and every extra decision costs a few completed baskets.

What each method costs you

Costs vary by method and are set by your provider, not by your ticketing software. Bank-based methods are often cheaper per transaction than card payments, and credit cards from outside Europe are usually the most expensive of all.

Speed differs too. Some methods confirm instantly, which is what you need when a place is being held during checkout. Anything that settles slowly is awkward for a sale with limited capacity and a queue of other buyers.

Methods with Passavo

With Mollie, the methods your buyers see are the ones switched on in your own Mollie account, and what you enable there appears at checkout. With Stripe, buyers pay by card, Bancontact or iDEAL, and with Bancontact Pro they scan a QR code with their phone.

We add nothing to what the buyer pays for choosing one method over another. Whatever the provider charges you is between you and them, and it does not become a charge on the ticket.

Common questions

Can we offer a bank transfer?

With Mollie, yes, if you switch it on there. The buyer receives the tickets once the money is in, which is awkward when the sale is nearly full.

Can we take payment in person as well?

Yes. Cash, card and QR payments at the desk are recorded on the till and appear in the same order overview as the online sales for the same event.
